LM_NET 05/10/98: No Subject

Subject: GEN: Need a contact for Nursing
I'm in a 9-12 high school with about 1500 diverse kids.  My principal has
proposed shortening each period by 2 min to create a 15 min. block between 2nd
and 3rd.  The suggestion (open to alteration) is that 3x/wk there be free
reading time, the other 2 days would be journal writing  and discussion of
what was being read.

Representatives from every dept. met and went over possible problems (the kid
who refuses, how to handle not having something to read, the gym with 100+
kids in it, etc.)  Everyone is to stop and read, custodians, etc., but the
switch board  and nurses office wwould be open.   I've read about this, but
didn't pay attention to details.

I volunteered to ask all of you if anyone has done this in a high school, how
it worked, are you continuing, major problems, feed back, etc.  TIA

My daughter is on the brink of acceptance for nursing school, and she is
really interested in being able to speak with people who are actively
working in the field, especially in the area of Labor and Delivery nursing,
where she thinks she wants to specialize. She has tried some of the nursing
chat rooms on the web and found them not very helpful, and she would really
like to be put in contact with someone who has Instant Messenger, so she
could talk one on one. If any of you have friends who are nurses,
especially Labor and Delivery nurses, and who have IM, please contact her.
