Hi!

This has been my first year at this school and so I have asked many
questions of how things were done in the past. One of the former
librarians is now a teacher here and has been a great help. I checked
with her before letting the staff know that, as in the past, the library
would be closing 2 weeks before the end of school for inventory, book
processing, clean up, catch up on the 2 computer servers, etc. I do not
have an extended contract - we are a year round school with 6 weeks off
in the summer, 2 of which there will still be remedial classes in the
building. As with most schools, library "special" is used for teacher
prep time.

Well apparently there are a few teachers baulking at this and I am being
asked to check with the other schools in our district, so we can do what
they do. They are all different. None of the others are year round.
It sounds like I will not be able to carry this through and I am pulling
out my hair.

If anyone has had experience with this type of situation, please lend me
your wisdom. I would love any supporting statements, lists, schedules,
etc., for my case. I would also welcome any other input you might
have. I do have 2 part time assistants, who are never there at the same
time, so I have not been able to adequately train either. They are both
terrific people, but have totally different work habits and skills.
This time - at the end of the year - would also help bring them
together and get a lot accomplished. When the other librarian and I
brainstormed, we came up with the idea that the teachers' instructional
assistants could cover their classes for the time the class would
normally be in the library.

I apologize for the "chapter," but I appreciate any help you can
provide. Thank you very much.

Kris
