AP tests

I have been asked to gather information about how different schools deal
with the issue of requiring students who take AP classes to take AP exams.
We have a number of students who decide, early in the semester, not to
take the AP exam. This tends to affect their commitment to the course and
divedes the class. How have your AP programs dealt with this?
