Thank you to all who responded concerning the Apple eMate. No, the eMate does not connect to a floppy drive. Unfortunately, it seems that Apple is going to discontinue the eMate, despite raving reviews in MacWorld this last summer. Several suggested getting a full laptop and possibly looking into the used laptop market to save money. I haven't made a decision yet, but I found all the advice very helpful! Thank you again. Original message: I need a portable computer, and I lothe the idea of spending $1400 or more on a lap top. I was thinking maybe an eMate might do the job. All I need is a word processor, database and spreadsheet and something to read my e-mail with. I prefer to stick with Apple, and like the idea of being able to seamlessly transfer files between Mac and Windows environments. My concern, however, is how to save my documents. I understand the eMate has 2MB of RAM and the stuff I intend to put on it would be about 50 documents taking about 2 MB of memory. Can I do this on the eMate, and leave it on there to work with from time to time? Or must I download to a real computer each time? Is there a port to connect a floppy drive? Thanks for your help!
