Elem: Help 40 minute K's

I've been taking my K's for 40 minutes for about 2O years now.  I usually plan
2 stories with the same theme...this week we're doing birthdays.

I set the stage for the first one with a piece of realia , a story relating to
my family or a question to them.  I open the book , turn to the title page and
we sing "Hi Ho Librario" AKA "The Author Writes the Book "from Judy Freeman's
wonderful tape of the same name.  After the story is book selection.  Then
it's back to the story corner for story #2.   By the time they all get in,
settled and tell you all the things that kindergartners just HAVE to tell you
,40 minutes isn't as long as it sounds.  I'm usually alone so sometimes we
don't even get to story #2.  It's do-able.
