We've done inservices for technology at our school. The worst case would
be
to set up several courses in one day. Teachers were exposed to a lot, but

minimal time for hands on.......not many people remembered anything a
week
later. We're (the tech committee) now doing inservices on a "come on in"
basis every other Tuesday afternoon. The first Tuesday is scheduled (for
example Power Point). The second Tuesday is free. Teachers let us know
what
they want, and we prepare small/one on one sessions for them-caters more
to
their particular needs. No agenda, no syllabus-just kinda flying by the
seat
of our pants, but we are hoping to set up a scope/sequence for skills
we'd
like the teachers and students to know......that isn't set in stone...or
even on paper yet!

We are going to have an in-service next Friday at our school over
different technologies that we have available. This will be our first
attempt so not sure if it will be successful. We have different
teachers that are more familiar with certain programs: i.e. MicroSoft
Word, Printmaster Gold, Winnebago, InfoTrac, etc. They will be
instructing others who have signed up. We have the day split into about
4-5 sessions (which I can tell already is not enough time but it is a
start) We have went to in-service that include all of the schools in
our area but have always come away with thinking that a majority of the
day did not pertain to our particular needs. That is why ours next
Friday will be an attempt to give our teachers hands on with programs
that we have available.

Yes, I taught an in service coursecalled Information Technologies. I
covered keyword searching, boolean logic, all the databases which we
had access to in the library. The final project was for each teacher
to design a research project for a class they were teaching which
would make use of the majority of research tools covered. Teachers
liked the course and some of them became more frequent library users.
