After the paperback is stapled doesn't it make it difficult for the reader to read the text nearest the gutter of the page or difficult to hold the book open? I no longer do any preparation on my paperbacks. I do not even cover them (except for extremely popular titles). I discovered that covering or performing any other task on the book, like stitching or stapling, does not necessarily extend the life of the book only adds costs to the initial purchase. Once a book looks dated children very rarely select it from the shelves to read.
