This question has also haunted me ever since I was in film school. Why is it that you can get a movie rated R when they show a woman (or child or man) being chased by a homicidal maniac who catches and kills them, complete with blood and various other gooey bodily fluids going everywhere - BUT if they show a man and woman (married or not) having sex where we can see body parts the movie gets an X. Why does our society tolerate graphic violence but not graphic sex? I'm not placing value or judgement - just questioning...
