Hi, Our school district is attempting to finally find ways to get the community to properly fund the libraries. I am working with one of the Asst. Superintendents and she has asked me to pose these questions to everyone. Our community has 3 high schools with approximately 1900 students each, 4 junior high schools with around 800 students each and then 15 elementary schools with anywhere from 400 to 800 students at those. All the schools have libraries. Some are better funded because of Parent/Teacher organizations. The city has not made the libraries a priority for quite awhile now. 1. We know we have outdated collections...what are the current criteria for weeding, especially concerning age of materials? We also know we need to do a needs assessment; I tried to check the archives for this but didn't find what I was looking for. Any ideas? 2. Does anyone know of grant funds that are available for school libraries? I plan to do a search of the Internet but wondered if anyone had any facts that would help us. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
