Greetings fellow LM_NETters! The Weed of the Month web pages on October's topic of computers havebeen posted at the following URL: http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/ Those of us who accept that a computer is obsolete shortly after purchase will have no problem understanding the need to weed this area of the collection. Dated computer literature is just as obsolete as a piece of discarded hardware. The SUNLINK Weed of the Month Club is an effort to help provide School Library Media Specialists with guidelines and suggestions for weeding their collections a little at a time as well as for adding quality materials. Included are sections on how to get started, the rationale for weeding a topic area, criteria to consider, titles to consider for weeding and titles to consider when replacing outdated materials. The topics from the 1997-98 school year are still posted, as well as the wonderful stories you shared with us as you weeded--this section is called "Things we've dug up." We have added new comments from an lm_netter to the Folklore section, as well as the DD’s Maxim’s for Collection Development, reposted with permission from Deborah Duke. When you have examined your school's computer collection and found titles to weed, please email me at the address below and we will add it to the list (without your name!). The same goes for terrific new folktale titles (or new versions of beloved old tales) you would like others to discover. Please also share your thoughts with your fellow lm_netters! ------ It does not matter how many books you may have, but whether they are good or not. — Lucius Annaeus SENECA (3 B.C.-65 A.D.)
