Fellow Librarians and Technologists, The tech. coordinator and I are presenting a workshop about use of the Internet with students and we would like to get a general feel for theory and policies used now. A couple of years ago when I took a graduate class about the Internet, the general rule of thumb was the teacher would research and locate sites s/he wanted the students to go to in doing their research. The thinking was it would help eliminate students getting into inappropriate sites as well finding usable information more quickly. Some teacher we work with feel that it is ok to turn students loose on the web and let them learn by doing and find their own sites. Generally, there is no instruction given previously on how to evaluate a site so that students know if the information they are finding is valid. (Yes, we have our work cut out for us!) We would like to know what you are doing in your schools and if you could break it down by grades levels it would help, i.e. elementary upper or lower, middle school or junior high and high school. Please send responses to ckittere@crusader.sfs-h.ac.kr Thanks and I will post a hit if there is interest.
