Book Challenge : The Watsons Go ....

HELP!  The Watsons Go To Birmingham was chosen as a core book in the 5th
grade curriculum.  A 5th grade parent (who is African American) is
challenging the book on the premise that it teaches children to hate
whites and makes whites feel guilty about what happened in U.S.
History.  Her children are to toung to understand these things.  She
also does not allow her children to watch TV nor read the newspaper.
She wants the book removed from the curriculum.  She has not yet
challenged having the book in the library collection.  Has anyone else
had problems with THE WATSONS ....  Thanks so much!
