Dear Netters, This question is for my personal use: My 15-year old son has Down Syndrome. He is quite computer literate, and I'm on the lookout for good reading software for him. The problem: he CAN'T do phonics. He reads only by sight vocab. All reading software seeems to use the phonics (sound it out, phonemes etc.) approach. Are any of you familiar with sightword-based reading software? In addition, it must be exciting to use. Not too cutesy. I'm also trying to locate some of the old Dolch readers with their wonderful controlled vocab. Are they available anywhere? Any other thoughts on helping my son to learn to read? He wants it so bad!! Thank you so much for your help! Julie Kessler jkessler@mhrcc.org or ktribe@mhv.net (home!)
