The is the compilation of sites I received. Thanks to all who contributed! My fifth graders are having a ball learning about Native Americans on the web! ******************************************************** Internet Resources in Native American Studies http://www.library.pima.edu/native.htm Charlotte's Web - Native Americans http://www.charweb.org/neighbors/na/na-index.htm ******************************************************* Here are a few I found while doing a similar search: http://www.nativeweb.org/resources.php?type=1 http://hanksville.phast.umass.edu/misc/NAresources.html http://www.ilt.columbia.edu/k12/naha/nanav.html http://www.studyweb.com/culture/nativeam.htm http://www.nativeweb.org/NativeTech ******************************************************** I put together a list of internet resources for my 5th graders last year for a project we were doing dealing with Pueblo Indians (and their ancestors) in the American Southwest. It is at http://www.voicenet.com/~srussell/Casaresources.html ******************************************************** Try the following site for Native American Links on the Web: http://www.ameritech.net/users/macler/nativeamericans.html ******************************************************** http://www.germantown.k12.il.us/html/intro.html It is a site prepared by sixth grade teachers, and first it explains what is meant by a Culture, then divides the tribes by 5 major cultures (on a map), then takes the 5 cultures (Northeastern Woodlands, Plains, etc.) and gives a lot of information on each culture--food, housing, religion, etc. There are a few links from there as well as the information they give, but the site itself contains enough information for the type of project our students are doing. We also tried using Yahooligans and searching for either Native American or the specific tribe, such as Anasazi, but mostly found museums or pictures. ******************************************************** There are two sites we have used: http://www.americanindians.com http://www.texasindians.com ******************************************************** ****************************************** http://web.maxwell.syr.edu/nativeweb/education/aila.html I hope I can attach several sites that I really like. I searched and am still looking for sites related to New York State. http://indy4.fdl.cc.mn.us/~isk/art/beads/wampum.html http://one-web.org/oneida/wampum-exhib.html http://one-web.org/oneida/food-index.html http://one-web.org/oneida/facts/poly-cooper.html Iroquois http://www.dickshovel.com/iro.html http://www.wcsu.k12.vt.us/~wardsboro/thanks.htm#Native_Americans Iroquois Indian Nation http://one-web.org/oneida/ Peter Milbury's list of sites http://www.chs.chico.k12.ca.us/libr/webres/amind.html Info links to many different tribes http://www.pitt.edu/~lmitten/indians.html Famous native American Indians from Nebraska--text only, but fairly short and easy to read http://www.ded.state.ne.us/tourism/report/native.html pic of Red Cloud and his farewell address to his people http://www.ilhawaii.net/~stony/redcloud.html If I remember, this is a general page about Native Americans http://www.intac.com/~jrt/classlinks/native.htm Smithsonian site on Native Americans http://www.si.edu/nmai/nav.htm http://www.cowboy.net/cgi-bin/people/Native/WebEvent/WebEvent/ Native American Indian Pow Wow http://www.fdl.cc.mn.us/fdltcc/guest/spirit Native American Resources http://hanksville.phast.umass.edu/misc/naresources.html http://www.atiin.com/atiin/nat_res.html Native American Studies http://cougar.ucdavis.edu/nas/SSILA/names.html Native Americans http://www.freenet.ufl.edu/~native Index of Native American Resources on the Internet: http://hanksville.phast.umass.edu/misc/NAresources.html National Museum of the American Indian http://www.interport.net/~logomanc/heye.html Use Eagle Ridge Elementary School. The URL is listed below. When you get there, select "Curriculum Links". Just below the "Curriculum Links" in a new section called "Special Links" look for "Multicultural" and then "Native American". Sorry that the path is so confusing, but we just did some rearranging and haven't worked out the kinks yet." http://www.esu3.k12.ne.us/districts/millard/centmidd/central.html http://dickshovel.netgate.net/Compacts.html Native American Sites http://one-web.org/oneida http://www.pitt.edu/~lmitten http://www.bham.wednet.edu click on Thanksgiving for choices http://www.mstm.okstate.edu/students/jjohnson2/ok-native.hym http://si.edu/nmai/edu/htm http://maxwell.syr.edu/nativeweb http://www.ilt.columbia.edu/k12/naha/natribes.html ******************************************************** One site geared to children is the wonderful ALA 700+ Great Sites for Children. It is located at http://www.ala.org/parentspage/greatsites/amazing.html Click on People past and present 1 and then scroll down to the section US History-General. Especially in "N" for Native American are a number of sites with many links. Have fun. ******************************************************** Here is a list of sites I have collected. I have not checked all of them. I believe the first two or three are art related sites. Hope this helps.
