Parallel scanners

I have been given the recommendation of purchasing a parallel scanner for a
new PC instead of a SCSI-driven scanner which would require me to purchase
a SCSI card?  How do the parallel scanners compare with the SCSI scanners
as far as speed and ease of use?  The SCSI card that Gateway recommended to
put the scanner I use on my Macintosh cost almost as much as a new scanner
would cost and the parallel scanner has higher resolution than my old one
does.

Please send me your opinions on this.
