GEN: Copyright Ownership URLs

     Hi, everybody!

     The August issue of Library Journal lists a couple of copyright
     websites which may be of interest to you.

     The first is "How to investigate the copyright status of a work"
     <http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ22>
     This is an online version of the basic copyright circular published by the
     Library of Congress.  There are instructions given for searching the
     copyright catalog, doing manual searches in the Copyright Office, and
     requesting searches to be done by the Copyright Office (there are fees for
     this service).

     The second is "Locating copyright holders"
     <http://mahogany.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/HRC/WATCH/locating.html>
     (Note:  this URL was printed with the upper case letters)
     This homepage specifies "US" copyright holders, which is not evident
     from the title.   Several approaches to locating a copyright holder
     are explained in easy-to-understand terms, and this is followed by a
     reference list.   Hot links are listed at the bottom of the website,
     and one of these links is for UK copyright information.
