Many thanks for the suggestions, Jackie Ralston JRals21781@aol.com Western Hills Middle School Grade 6-Social Studies Cranston, RI More to come! First posting of suggestions: Jackie: I see a couple of library-related titles at: http://www.wcsu.k12.vt.us/~wardsboro/list29.htm#Readaloud58 which might be good. Let me know if you get some good ones relating to back-to-school and I will add them to the above list. -Dale Jackie Ralston wrote: > Any suggestions for an opening of school read aloud suitable for 6th graders > with just that theme....back to school....new school....start of a new year. > Picture book would also be acceptable. > Thanks, > Jackie Ralston > Grade Six Social Studies Teacher > Western Hills Middle School > Cranston, RI > JRals21781@aol.com > This year I read: "Alenxander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day" . I thought it dealt well with attitudes. Now when I call a person "Alex" during the day.. they all know.. that I am saying.. "someone needs an attitude check here" :) _________________________________________________________________________ LeeAnn wrote: > Hello, > > * Fabulous Flying Fandini's - - a picture book about stepping out and taking a risk to know the new neighbors > * A Taste of Blackberries - - a short chapter book about friendship > * Tacky the Penguin - - a picture book, acceptance of others when they are different > > Enjoy - - - have a great new year!!!!!!!! > > LeeAnn > > -----Original Message----- > From: Jackie Ralston [SMTP:JRals21781@AOL.COM] > Sent: Saturday, August 29, 1998 11:38 AM > To: Multiple recipients of list MIDDLE-L > Subject: Read Aloud > > Any suggestions for an opening of school read aloud suitable for 6th graders > with just that theme....back to school....new school....start of a new year. > Picture book would also be acceptable. > Thanks, > Jackie Ralston __________________________________________________________________________ I've enjoyed reading OLD BLACK FLY by Aylesworth--great illustrations by Steven Gammell--to my incoming 6th graders--it's actually an alphabet book but it's cute in a whimsical way. I just read about another one I'd like to try called DOUBLE TROUBLE IN WALLA WALLA--I just ordered a copy so I don't know yet whether it will be any good.
