Belonging to professional associations has been one of the most satisfying
experiences of my career.  I'm responding because its such a great opportunity
to praise our great professional organizations.  Being from New Jersey I
joined the Educational Media Association of NJ 18 years ago and have attended
every conference and have also worked on conference committees as well as
participated as part of the executive board of trustees.  Our conferences have
evolved over the years into 3 day events that gather presenters from all over
the country and address every aspect of our profession.  This year's
conference is on October 22-24 at the Sheraton Tara in Parsippany and has
among its stellar highlights Avi, Letitia Baldrige, Alan November, Gary
Hartzell, Suzanne Fisher Staples and Caroline Cooney.  We will also be
addressing the implementation of the new standards just unveiled in
Washington.  Belonging to this state organization gives me the support and
expertize of all of its members and then some.  National organizations are
equally rewarding.  Belonging to ALA and AASL and attending their conferences
have contributed enormously to my professional growth.  They are also always
working to enhance the public's perception of our profession and provide us
with the research and practical knowledge that will allow us to meet our ever
changing challenges.  I've met so many wonderful people from all over the
country and learned so much and will continue.
