Gen: Target: Book character doll sources

LM Netters,
Our local Walmart has presented me with a check for $500.00 to spend as
I see fit! As we have added kindergarten classes to our school, I've
decided to buy a life-size book character or two to cuddle up and read
with in the library.
Demco sells them, but do any of you have a source that is more
economical? I really want to make each dollar count!
I'm thinking of Arthur or Curious George or the Cat in the Hat or
Courdoroy. Where are the bargains?
