Dear Netters, My school is undergoing expansion and renovation. One of the things the contractor bid on was the fabrication of a new circulation desk for my middle school library. That's the good news. The bad news (scary!) is that I have to design this circ desk!! I've been looking at pics of desks in catalogs like Brodart, Highsmith, etc. and haven't seen anything wonderful. My library is in a WPA building (cornerstone 1935). It's lovely - golden oak woodwork and raised paneling, golden oak tables dating from the early 1900's. I'd like to keep that Mission/Stickley feeling. How long should it be? How deep? How many chairs should be behind it? How many people should be able to work behind it at one time? The contractor has a generous allowance for this piece of furniture, but I'm in a quandry. Whatever I design will be forever, and I want it to be right. It does not haveto be located next to the entrance, so it doesn't have to be L-shaped, as many circ desks seem to be. Any ideas and/or suggetions? My heartfelt thanks in advance!
