School Library Media Month press kit from ALA

The American Library Association's (ALA) Public Information Office
offers an online press kit for School Library Media Month. School
library media specialists can use the press kit to help educate
parents and others about the important role they play in the education
of children and teens. The press kit is available at
<http://www.ala.org/pio/presskits/slmmkit/>.

The press kit includes:

* the ALA press release, "April is School Library Media Month --
Read! Learn! Connect! @ the Library;"
* a web page with examples of the school library media center's
integral role in educating children, research findings showing direct
correlation between high quality school library media programs and
student achievement, questions parents can ask to evaluate their
child's school library media center, and tips for parents on how to
support their child's education by supporting libraries;
* profiles of six outstanding school librarians, including ALA
President Ann K. Symons (Juneau Douglas High School, Juneau, Alaska)
and AASL President Sharon Coatney (Oak Hill School, Overland Park,
Kansas).

An online press kit is also available for National Library Week at
<http://www.ala.org/pio/presskits/nlwkit/>. For more information about
School Library Media Month, contact the ALA Public Information Office
at 1-800-545-2433, ext. 5044; e-mail: <pio@ala.org>.
