FYI--- From SJSU, California ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 1 Apr 1999 14:29:12 -0800 (PST) From: Blanche Woolls <bwoolls@wahoo.sjsu.edu> Subject: Arbuthnot weekend School librarians and teachers: Please plan to attend the May Hill Arbuthnot lecture to be held on Friday, April 16 at 4:30 p.m. in San Jose State University's Morris Dailey Auditorium. A reception follows on the Tower Hall lawn at 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for this event, but tickets are required for admission. Also held that weekend on the campus of San Jose State University will be on Saturday, April 17, the California School Library Association is hosting a spring workshop, "@the library--Connecting Resources." Keynote speaker will be Dr. Marilyn Miller, Professor Emeritus, University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her topic will be "Connecting with Information Power" and copies of the new guidelines will be available for sale at the workshop. Cost of the workshop is $20 including a box lunch. Please send a check to Terri Lai, Librarian, Hoover Middle School, 2290 14th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94116. On-site registration with coffee and danish will be held in the lobby of Morris Dailey Auditorium beginning at 8:30 a.m. The keynote will be in the Auditorium with the remainder of the sessions in the School of Library and Information Science, 6th floor Walquist North. On Sunday, April 18, a Leadership Seminar will feature past presidents of ALA, ALSC, AASL, and YALSA at 10:00 a.m. in Room 614 of the School of Libary and Information Science, 6th floor Walquist North. ALA presidents coming for the Arbuthnot in addition to Marilyn Miller will be Peggy Sullivan, Regina Minudri, and Brooke E. Sheldon. ALSC past presidents include Barbara Immroth and Barbara Perkins; AASL past presidents Bettie Day, David Loertscher, Blanche Woolls; YALSA past president Michael Cart. There is no charge for this seminar but we do need an RSVP. The seminar closes at noon with champagne and strawberries. Should you wish housing in San Jose for the weekend, we have special rates at the Hilton (408-287-2100) at $95 per room single or double occupancy. The Hilton is approximately five blocks from SJSU. The Hyatt San Jose, 1740 North 1st Street (at the airport and about 15 minutes from downtown). Please call 408-993-1234 or FAX 408-453-0259. Their charge is $65 per room per night single or double. On campus parking will be available for those attending.
