Somehow, although the words are tantamount in old classics, it matters to me what illustrations I am looking at too. I like to reread: Stevenson's Treasure Island with the N. C. Wyeth illustrations; Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with the Tenniel pictures; Winnie the Pooh with the original Shepherd drawings; and Howard Pyle's Merry Adventures of Robin Hood (though I found when I read this to some fifth graders, they didn't care for Pyle's authentic drawings of English outlaws in medieval garb ---- they preferred to think of Robin Hood as a Disney fox! Oooo-la). Also David Copperfield and The Hobbit. I also continue to reread, as others have mentioned: Secret Gardenand The Five Children and It.
