I had an interesting experience recently with a book that I had read as a child. I was showing a Weston Woods video of The Donuts- a chapter from Homer Price. I had loved this book as a child and used to read that chapter to students when I was a new LMS. I was busily working at the desk when the film began. I found myself mouthing all the words to the story. I was somewhat surprized to hear the "rich lady". I used to do her voice a la ZaZa Gabor. dahling. Seriously among my childhood favorites: the Beatrix Potter books (my Mom learned to read in school using those books and knew them by heart), Andersen's Fairy Tales (purchased at the one and only book fair our school ever had), Heidi, Appolonia's Valentine, Andy and the Lion (I loved when he took the book back to the public Library), the Landmark Books (also a History major), Lentil and many others too numerous to name. When I introduce them as one of my favorites from childhood my students seem especiallly interested.
