Book Clubs

Some students asked if I would start a book club for them "like the one
Oprah has."  So far only 8th graders are interested, about 6 girls at
about the same reading level (am I lucky or what?).  Anyway, I searched
the archives and have a few questions I am hoping someone can help me
with.  If you have had success (or failure) with a book club, please let
me know what made it work (or not work).  Do you have the students buy
their own copies of the book?  How do you select the book to be read?  I
have a couple of ideas, but I need your ideas on these and any other
topic you think I need to consider.
