Hi, everyone! I am a graduate SLIS student working on my SLMS degree and an 8th grade teacher. My term paper topic is Bibliotherapy. Since I am aware of how Alice (:-)) feels about us rookies, let me tell you that: I have searched the Archives, all of my research is completed, and half the paper is written. I AM STUCK ON ONE AREA and hope you can help! I am trying to discover if there is a program available somewhere, whether within a school of psychology, education or library science, for anyone (school social worker/psychologist, therapist, librarian, teacher) to become certified to practice "true" bibliotherapy. True bibliotherapy (Hynes) includes therapy-like sessions where the facilitator is trained to conduct such a meeting. Obtaining a school library media specialist degree, at least in my eyes, does not qualify one to manage therapeutic sessions with troubled students. Agree? Any other schools of thought? I have called our state Department of Public Instruction, UW-Madison School of Library Info. Studies & School of Psychology . . and have received no definitive responses. Thank you SO much for any help you can provide. I love reading LM_Net messages to learn what I'm in for--the headaches AND the joys!! You're great.
