Hey, I just wrote down a few that I reread a lot (I collect Robin Hoods).
I didn't list my favorites way back in the olden days when I was a young,
avaricious reader: All the Doctor Doolittle books! Science fiction by
Lester Del Ray (The Runaway Robot), Heinlein ("Spaceman, Come Home"), and
Andre Norton (I was influenced to try a lot of science fiction after I read
her "Star Man's Son" (later retitled "Daybreak, 20??).

There were all of Lang's multi-hued fairy tale anthologies, The Arabian
Nights, and King Arthur.

Then I did the young female teen horse book thing - Farley's Black Stallion
series, The Golden Stallion series by Montgomery, King of the Wind , etc.
by Henry, "My Friend Flicka" and the other two in that series, and a horse
novel called "Copper Khan" (rolls off the tongue).

I got into a few other themes and read avidly everything fiction and
non-fiction I could find on White captives of Native Americans
(e.g.Lenski's biography of Mary Jemison), which lead me to biographies of
all the Native chiefs like Crazy Horse, Sequoya, Sitting Bull, etc.

There were the fascinating Zim guides to nature and Louis Untermeyer's
thick anthologies of poetry.
Wally the Wordworm by Clifton Fadiman, and lots of jokes and riddle
collectionsFinally , my first introduction to romance books with the Gladys
Malvern biblical women in fictionalized novels like "The Foreigner" and
"Behold Your Queen".

Finally my folks got me into Death Be Not Proud, A Nation of Immigrants,
and That famous non-fiction book with Giants in the title? "Giants in the
Earth" ? - about Pasteur, Leeuvenhook (excuse spelling), and the other
forerunners of modern medicine.

"It's got to be the going not the gettin' there that's good." Harry Chapin
in song "Take the Greyhound"
"But then, you could go both ways!" Scarecrow in movie "The Wizard of Oz"
