Sounds like a good plot for a Sci-Fi story to me. John Meckler, Librarian Plains Public School Library Plains, MT 59859 jmeckler@montana.com I carve, therefore I am! All books are listed below. Wouldn't you know, I got to the meeting with many of your ideas and some of the books, and the statement was made that "we'll be adding several books to the list; we're working on it right now"! The upper division librarian shared "Holes" and that was about it!!! So there wasn't a huge rush on it after all (I have a whole week to come up with more now). In addition to your book suggestions, one person responded with "...suggest that you talk with the children's librarian at the public library..", which is an excellent idea. Another had a very interesting idea: "...What do you think of including author websites on a summer reading list? (Ideas: Brett, Carle, Pilkey, Polacco, Janet Stevens and Audrey Wood) Students without home computers might be able to use the Internet at the public library. : )..." If anyone has implemented something like this, I (and probably others) would be interested in how you did it. Our requirement is the student has to read the book and a parent signature is requested.
