Here are a few titles I loved as a kid:
The Velvet Room/Snyder
Zee/Enright?
Miss Hickory/Bailey
Poppyseed Cakes/Clark?
Animal Family/Jarrell
D'Aulaire books on myths, Greek & Norse
Anything by Howard Pyle

I also loved those Classics Illustrated, though I remember thinking I
wouldn't have to read The House of Seven Gables, since I'd read the comic
book.  Never have either!
