Last year someone recommended Double Trouble in Walla Walla by Andrew Clements as a good beginning-of-school read aloud. I ordered a copy from Amazon and read it to my 1st and 2nd graders. It was a big hit. I found another copy in a local store and both copies have been in demand all year.
