Dear Netters:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your help. You
may recall that I sent a message a couple of weeks ago asking for information
about state book awards for a presentation my partner and I had to make for
our Children's Lit. class. I am happy to say that I received 68 responses. My
partner, Beth, and I made our presentation this past Monday. We handed out a
table of the states, the names of the awards and when they were established,
the age group they represented, and the most recent winners and authors. It
was well received and all of our classmates, many of whom are already school
librarians, were very happy to have the information.

Several of you asked me to post a hit of the state awards, so here they are
in alphabetical order. If a state is not listed, it is because we did not
hear from them or we could not find any information about them from any of
the major search engines. For those of you who asked, the requirements for
Media Specialist Certification here in Texas are: 21 hours of prescribed
graduate level Library & Inforlmation Science classes (includes internship)
and 3 years of classroom teaching experience. We have a great need for LMS
right now, so jobs may be fairly easy to attain. The Texas Library
Association's website is: www.txla.org.

Again, our heartfelt thanks to all of you who took the time from your summer
vacation to help out a couple of MLIS students. Best wishes to all of you for
a great school year!
