Yes, I agree that we do need to rethink the use of magazines in the library. If they are being used for research purposes only, often the on-line full text indexes do replace many of the magazines. Yet, I also think magazines have many other purposes. I gather information and viewpoints by browsing magazines. Many magazines can provide information for special interests such as cars, makeup, or dogs. I think that the availability of on-line sources means we should make our magazines more accessible and perhaps shift from research magazines found on-line to browsing special interest magazines. I really am just starting a very slow shift that way. I still browse better with a print copy than on the internet personally. I receive one newspaper at home and read another online and I have been trying to analyze what type of information process is happening.
