I think that it is definitely the trend especially if you are a library
that
only keeps periodicals for a limited time.  If you can find it online, you
don't have to worry about it being stolen or ripped up.  It can be printed
or emailed or just read.  We are keeping paper copies of more popular
magazines.  We have Ebsco online which was purchased by the state of
Wisconsin for all schools, libraries, and homes.  Even if we did not have
this product we would have on line periodicals.  You also retrieve a lot
of space!!  We have never had the room to keep things more that 3 years on
shelves.  Michele
