I am just beginnning my second year as school librarian, and I have a question for you about periodicals. My predecessor used a service with which I am pleased. When she sent in the renewal in 1998 she changed it from her name to mine. This year I sent the renewal and changed our address because we now have 911 addresses. As a result of all of this, we are getting duplicate magazines---the secretary said that last year she took the initiative of contacting the magazines to have subscriptions extended since we were getting duplicates. (thanks!) I would like to be able to send in the renewal next year and have all the magazines due at the same time and renewed for the same time period. Am I wasteful to just let those duplicate copy subscriptions run their course? I can always give them away to someone at school. It just seems that if I contact the publishers this year and extend the subscriptions then I'll have a bunch of magazines with a variety of renewal dates. What do you all suggest?
