Several people asked for a hit on this, so here it is so far:
Try The Monster's Ring by Bruce Coville. It is a wonderful read-aloud.

I love to read Roald Dahl to anyone who will listen. Also, the Harry Potter
books, I would think, would be
good. Someone just mentioned Robert Asprin and he would be fun. Also,
how about John Bellairs, Avi, and good ol' James Howe? Have a great
year! Oh, and the Ralph S. Mouse books, Beverly Cleary, or E.B.White.
And Wind in the Willows!

When I was in Jr. High I enjoyed the books by Eleanor Cameron. Wonderful
Flight to the Mushroom Planet may have been the first book. I checked
Amazon.com and it listed: Stowaway to the Mushroom Planet; and Time and Mr.
Bass: A Muschroom Planet Book. I think there were one or two other titles
too in this series.

Try - _Among the Hidden_ by Haddix and the new Bawden one, _Off the
Road_. You will also get Lowry's _The Giver_ mentioned.

How about Green Futures of Tycho (Sleator), the White Mountains
(Christopher), Anna to the Infinite (Ames) and the Mushroom Planet
series.

Two that leapt to mind: The Giver by Lois Lowry and A Wrinkle in Time
by Madeline L'Engle.

I just finished "Among the Hidden" by Margaret Peterson Haddix".
Although I'm not a fan of SciFi, I couldn't put this book down!

Thanks to all who responded!
That's it for now! I see that some of these same books/authors were on the
Fantasy lists that were just posted. Sometimes, it is hard to define!
