12 August Dear Netters, The AASL national conference may be invigorating and inspirational, but it only MAY be tax deductible. People need to check with their own tax advisors, but I think the law goes more like this: Only people who itemize deductions can include unreimbursed educational costs on their Schedule A, in the miscellaneous deductions section. Itemized deductions need to be more than the standard deduction for the Schedule A to have any impact. Of those miscellaneous deductions, only the total amount of expenses in excess of 2% of adjusted gross income can be deducted. Employees who attend conferences to meet the minimum requirements of their current jobs cannot deduct any of their expenses. It's better than nothing, but it isn't totally deductable.
