Hello, I hope you all realize that you are the reason I am still happy with my career choice. Without this group I would be in a constant state of panic as I prepare for my first day. Thank you! Now I'll pick your brains yet again. I am considering starting a birthday book program at my (K-7) school to supplement my budget. I've talked to several parents who are excited about the idea and I just read the archives for your previous discussions. The idea that the parents (and I) like best is to have a selection of books available at the beginning of the year, like at open house, when the parents are in the building and can see the books. I read in a HIT posted last summer that at least one school operates this way. The main problem I see with this is that it is not really a BIRTHDAY program. I am also not comfortable with the whole solicitation process ( I know, I better get comfortable, but I'm not there yet!) I would really appreciate it if those of you who have successful BB program could share whatever parent information you send out as well as figures that would help me sell the idea to the admin. My local bookstore owner is very willing to support me by offering parents a 10% discount on books they purchase for the program while maintaining a registry of books that I want. (to avoid duplication and undesired donations). This would be an option for parents who don't want to participate during open house. Finally, what are some reputable companies for buying books on preview? I worked with a great one in a previous job several years ago, but I can't remember who they were. (I also worked with some not-so-great ones) Thanks SO much!
