Regarding the library at Columbine HS:
They walled off the library after gutting it completely.  The initial
plans were to completely redo it with different interior walls and
stacks and furniture, even relocating the doors.  However, protests from
victims' parents were honored and work was halted until the opening of
school, at which time students and parents will be surveyed to determine
whether or not to reopen the library in the existing space.  The
victims' parents have agreed to go with the majority opinion of the
school community with regard to the location of the library.  In the
meantime, students will be using a portable library set up on the school
grounds which will provide a study area and the use of a reference
collection.  The new collection as well as the new furniture will be
stored until the new library is reopened...wherever it is decided it
will go.  Students were back today and had a "take back the school"
rally first thing this morning.  Community and staff formed a human ring
around the school to keep the media at bay, but at last report there
were at least 3 dozen media satellite trucks in the park nearby.  New
security cameras have been installed and staff and students are required
to wear id badges.  Our hope is that the CHS community will have a
chance to heal and go one with their lives.  Thank you to all in the
school library community who sent messages, donations, and thoughts of
support.
