Thanks to everyone who answered. (I had a teacher who was convinced the pronunciation was "dees"). This is the answer that I received from Virginia Hamilton: You are correct. I named Dies Drear after a family in our town who's last name was Dies, pronounced as in >everyone 'dies'. Long I. Hope this clears it up for you. Glad you enjoy my books.
