Elem: book suggestion and sex ed video

I work in a preschool-12th grade school.  Every year the headmaster wants to
read a short book or chapter at the first assembly that will appeal to the
entire school.  I've run out of ideas and dread seeing him walk in!  Any
suggestions?? He loved The Garden from one of the Frog and Toad books last
year and I need something along those lines.  TIA for any help you could
give me!
A new science teacher this year wants to replace our filmstrips(!) on sex ed
for a video a bit more current.  She teaches to 5th grade.  If you know of
anything, could you also please let me know.  Thanks
