Our elementary librarian told the Gareth Stevens sales representative that
our district does not preview. Lo and behold, this week what do we get but
a 63-lb. box of books delivered via UPS. Fortunately Kathy remembered
mailing back the solicitation and didn't open the box. I called the long
distance number listed on the box, was given an 800 number and talked to
customer service. I was kind of taken aback --
I was told, returning the solicitation with a "No" response doesn't matter,
previews are still sent. I was cheerfully given a call tag number.

I asked, well, what if we didn't send them back since we certainly had told
you we didn't want them. The woman said it wouldn't matter since we didn't
have "documentation." So, I asked, well, what if we had kept a copy of the
form that was mailed back saying no. She responded that since we had
signed for the box with UPS, we had basically accepted the preview and
couldn't just keep it.

I can tell you I don't think this is good business practice and I'm curious
-- did this happen to any of you? I found it very offensive.
