I had asked if anyone knew of resources for people who have written children's books and hope that our powers as library media specialists can help them get them published! Several people responded, asking for a hit. Thank you to the many who answered. I have organized the responses into four categories since several suggestions were similar. (Now, if I could get a good answer for those people who assume that because I like books and children, I should be writing children's books too!) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Send them to SCBWI - Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. They have a web site and will provide all the info they need. It will also open their eyes to the world of publishing - not everybody can write a children's book! There is at least one chapter in every state and it is also a national organization. The web page for the organization is: www.scbwi.org/member.htm Try the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Website: http://www.scbwi.org --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Send those who inquire directly to the reference section of their local library for WRITER'S MARKET. The book not only contains information about appropriate markets but also contains essays which outlines how to write a query letter, procedures, and so forth -- including the fact that unless one is an accomplished artist her/himself a manuscript should never be sent with illustrations. The publisher will arrange for those if they decide to publish the mss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Another important publication is the LMP (Literary Market Place) which includes directories and details about all the publishers around the world. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Children's Writing Resource Center http://www.write4kids.com/index.html http://www.write4kids.com/ Writer's Digest also publishes many books for aspiring writers. http://www.writersdigest.com/101sites/ Elizabeth Vaccaro, media specialist Mitchell School Needham, MA evaccaro@massed.net =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
