Thank you to all who responded to my dilemma of breaking my contract to allow myself to have an increase of $11,000.00 and a commute cut of half an hour. I was able to be released from my contract only after paying a $500.00 penalty, paychecks of July and half of August, and insurance/benefits the school paid for two months. I was unable to sign the new contract until the old one was released. The priest said that if I did not show up to work but would decide to leave and work at the other job, that he would sue me for breech of contract. In Ohio, a public school teacher can have his/her license suspended when breaking a contract after July 10th. Private and parochial teachers do not follow under that category. I could have conter-sued for discrimination because the principal did release others from their contracts after July 10th. Why wouldn't he release me? I just thought it would be less of a headache to pay them. I wanted to just go on to my new and wonderful job. Today was the first day of school. I LOVE IT!:):):):):):):):):):) Angela Gerald School librarian Gahanna Lincoln Elementary agerald@greenapple.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
