Dear Netters,
I'm looking for books, pictures, web sources, that show garden mazes in
England. My friend wants to use miniature objects and hedges to recreate a
maze and then photograh it. Similar to the Look Alikes book by Joan Steiner.
I'd appeciate any leads you can send me.
Thanks in advance,

Subject: HIT: Reading Levels Online

Thanks to all who responded.

1. My teachers and I have been using Follett Book Catalog and
Perma-Bound (at times). Follett lists reading levels, as does Perma
Bound - Follett's are usually a smidge higher than Perm's. I notice that
Scholastic Reading Counts (old Electronic Bookshelf) is pushing LEXILE.

2. Titlewave is on the Follett web site. It is a catalog of books and it
is intended to be used for ordering purposes but you can look up book
titles to find RL and IL. They also provide this information on CDROM.
It is free. The online version needs a user name and password but that
is free also.

3. There is a company in N.C. called MetaMetrics. They have researched
and developed a reading level indicator and system for books called the
Lexile Framework. A few years ago, they were partnering with Baker &
Taylor and other wholesalers to have this information incorporated in
there title databases. Their web address is
http://www.lexile.com/about_lex/map.html .

4. Carol Hurst lists her books by grade level. It's not a lot of books,
but it's a start http://www.carolhurst.com

5. Check the archives. Last spring (April or May) someone wrote how to
determine reading level by using Microsoft word.
