We get many requests on LM-net for e-mail lists for teachers, administrators and various other interest groups. I have just been made aware of a new online listserve provider because of the start up of a new Prison-LIB list for prison and jail librarians. It indexes many of the listserve lists that we refer to in our FAQ such as Liszt, Tile.net and PAML http://www.topica.com/ Anyone can start a list and you can read and post either from the web or from your own mail program. There is still a list "owner" and that person may have their own specific rules. For example, on the prison list you have to send personal information to the owner only so she can assure herself that you are "legit" but for security concerns you do not have to use your own name and where you are. Of course, in corrections we have special concerns in this area especially those in higher level and more threatening environments! I have communicated with someone in a juvenile corrections setting on LM-net and I wanted to let that person and whomever else might be interested in being involved or learning more about Corrections librarianship that this new list exists. The list is called: Prison-LIB. You go to the main site and register and then ask to sign up for that particular list. This list has grown to over 35 members in just a few days in existence! I'm sure it will never be what LM-net is since most prison librarians only do e-mail at home since prisons are not very connected. You might find some interesting groups!
