What a shame! I think it was last spring when we had a thread about teachers not wanting the kids to read the books required in later grades. Perhaps explaining that each time you read a book it is different because *you* are a different person each time would help. Perhaps they would understand that a book read for enjoyment can be rediscovered when done as a classroom novel. Sure, the kids may remember the basics of plot, but well taught, a previously read novel could/should be a very new experience for them. Are the teachers afraid they'll be bored the second time around? Good books are like good friends--one visit is never enough! I have told my kids that I re-read my favorites (like Huck Finn) whenever I lose track of why I'm so passionate about its worth. Good luck with this one! Maureen S.
