Just passing on a warning: BACK UP YOUR LIBRARY DATA!!!! As I started the school year, one of our schools network servers froze.... mine. It was the one with the Library automation program and the collection data. It was also my web server. It contained my website that I had been designing for over a two years. All my lesson plans.... etc. When the server was restarted, I was faced with am "unreadable disk error" Still, our district technology experts assured us that all servers were backed up daily.... so I shouldn't worry. WRONG!!!!!!!! The backup tape for my server was blank. I posted the address for my website some weeks back, and I received a lot of positive feedback. Thank you. Unfortunately, my website will be down for a bit. http://mte.anacortes.k12.wa.us I am going to let the administration sweat........ (I backed up the Library data, and most of the website myself) All I can say is DON"T RELY ON SOMEONE ELSE TO BACK UP YOUR DATA! Here are some tips to remember. 1. Have you own back up system 2. Copy your collection data on to a tape, or another computer on the network. 3. If you run your automation system off a network server, ask if the server's harddrive is partitioned. This meand it is divided into a C drive and a D drive. The operating system is on C and your data should be on D This way, they can reformat the C drive if necessary, and your data remains untouched. 4. Back up at least every other Day -- Carl Dellutri cdellutri@anacortes.k12.wa.us Librarian Mt.
