Melodi and all...

I've done a variety of things on Australia for the last 2 years. First of
all, here are the ISBN #'s to a series of books under the heading "Stories
of Dreamtime: Tales of the Aboriginal People"...

Gidja the Moon 1555329489
The Rainbow Serpent 1555329497
Black Duck and Water Rat 1555329454
The Flying Fox Warriors 1555329462
The Peopling of Australia 1555329500

Another fun Aussie title is Graeme Base's MY GRANDMA LIVED IN GOOLIGULCH
(ISBN# 0810915472, a rhyming story that introduces many of Australias
fascinating animals)...

As far as activities go... the most fun I had with the students is when I
put Aussie slang terms on 5x7 cards, and their matching definitions on 5X7
cards... I split the class up... half got the terms, half the definitions,
and after they mingled a while to try and discover their match, we
re-convened and those students who were lucky enough to get it right got a
"lolly" as the Aussie's would say (AKA candy)

A neat little book that is hopefully still available is the AUSTRALIAN
PHRASEBOOK put out by "Lonely Planet" (ISBN# 0864422563, a lil' PB)

Also, there is a series of books called CULTURE SHOCK and I got one on
Australia years ago that should hopefully be updated... that has some
great background info. too.

I could say more (I was lucky enough to visit Australia twice with a group
of kids as a chaperone!), but I'll give it a rest for now. If you want
more info. Melodi, you can email me specifically, and I'll do the same in
response.

Good luck and g'day!
