Barcode Label Placement??

Dear LM_Netters,
Hello, I've just moved to a new library.  In my old library, we placed the
labels along the spine at the bottom right hand side of the back of the
book.  In my new school, the labels are across the top of the back cover
closer to the spine.  One of the schools in our Division is just starting
their barcoding.  Is there an optimum location?  And why?
