TARGET: SEC: Classics

I know this subject has been addressed before, and I've surfed the archives
for a few ideas, but I thought I would toss the question out again.  I'll
gladly post a hit of results.

The teachers in the Engish Department are interested in updating their list
of "Classics".  They have one, but it's been in use several years.  What
books would you include?  What criteria do you use to select books for this
list?
